![]() ![]() This place has been in business for over 30 years for a reason it's well worth stopping in. If the cafe is closed and you want to combine your stop with a meal, the A&W across the parking lot/driveway provides a great option. The store location is easily accessible off I-90/94/39 from the interstate to the parking lot is less than 3 minutes. The staff is always quick to help with recommendations. Noteworthy for vegetarians: almost all the cheese varieties I have seen are rennet-free and vegetarian-friendly. They purchase direct from the cheese manufacturers and do their own aging, making this a great place to pick up 10-year, 15-year, and occasionally 20-year cheddars. ![]() Prices are premium grocery store level for what you're buying, but the quality is always exceptional you can find cheaper basic cheeses elsewhere, but if you're buying aged cheddar or a more unfamiliar variety, the prices are completely in line with what you'd expect to pay elsewhere. A selection of Wisconsin gifts, including postcards and cheese hats, fills out the rest of the store. Then there is also a decent (though not immense) selection of home-made fudge. They also make sandwiches featuring several cheese varieties, though when I've stopped in the cafe has always been closed (if you want to eat, try to come earlier in the day). They have regular cheeses, cheeses with other items mixed in (fruit, caramel, maple syrup, seasonings and spices, beer, and hot peppers, including Carolina Reaper), cheese spreads, baked cheese, and cheese curds, with well over 140 varieties in all. The Mousehouse has a great selection of locally-made cheeses, most with their shop branding, covering virtually every kind of Wisconsin cheese (and a few European-style varieties) that once could ask for. I stop here once every year while traveling through Wisconsin to visit family, and I typically buy enough cheese to last for the year (they also ship nationwide). ![]()
